Capitalizing on Achievements and Partnerships for Students
Throughout the 2011-2012 school year, the Pierre School District will be providing high quality before and after school program for students grades K-5 enrolled at McKinley Elementary and students enrolled in St. Joseph Elementary that live in the McKinley school district entitled Capitalizing on Achievement and Partnerships for Students (CAPS).
The before school program will run Monday thru Friday from 7:05 am to 7:50 am. The after-school program will also run Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The CAPS program is only available when school is in session. On early release days, CAPS will begin at 12:35 p.m.
Every week your student will experience a variety of educational and fun activities. The CAPS program will be devoted to academic enrichment, fitness and recreational, health and nutrition, technology, cultural and fine arts activities, mentoring, remedial activities, and additional choices geared towards meeting your child’s individual needs.
Vision Statement
The CAPS Program’s vision is to provide your child(ren) with an active learning environment that stimulates the whole child by engaging all the senses and domains, and ultimately, improving academic achievement.
Goals
CAPS will provide comprehensive programming that addresses the ‘whole child’, including academic growth, healthy behavior, personal growth, an awareness of lifetime sports, and exposure to a variety of recreational activities.
CAPS will foster community partners and resources to enrich and sustain the program beyond the life of the grant.
CAPS will provide opportunities for parents to participate in learning activities with their children, and to expand their own understanding of parenting, literacy, technology, and economic issues.
